Why Skills for English?

Skills for English is a qualification that enables you to demonstrate your knowledge of the English language for many purposes, including work, study, or settlement. With Skills for English, you get:

  • A degree that has been verified by the Scottish Credentials Authority (SQA), a global innovator in the establishment of credentials.
  • A clear path for rapid progress toward your goal, with practical support, study aids, and practice tests
  • A variety of test levels to match your needs precisely, with the outcome based on a simple pass-mark
  • Simple on-demand booking and a choice of delivery channels and locations
  • A one-session test that is entirely computer-based with no examiner/assessor present
  • Auto-marked reading and listening skills, with speaking and writing components marked by expert assessors who do not see any of your details
  • A quick turn-around on marking with results being available in as little as 14 days

Levels tailored to your needs

Skills for English provides an accurate measure of language proficiency through practical and realistic tasks which you would expect to undertake in an English-speaking environment.

  • You get to choose the test level you require, from beginner to proficiency, for either two skills, speaking and listening, or four skills, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. That way, you know you are preparing for and taking precisely the level of test you need for your chosen purpose – no more, no less.

Computer-based testing for all skills

All Skills for English tests use computer-based delivery for all skills. Reading and listening are automatically marked during the test session itself; speaking and writing are recorded digitally during the test session and marked by trained assessors (who have no visibility of your details) after you’ve finished. It follows that you can test all the components in succession in a single session and get your results in as little as 14 days.

Speaking

First, you have to introduce yourself. Then you will listen to a series of recordings and respond to recorded questions and tasks that will be manifested on the screen. You will do this by registering your spoken answers.

Listening

The student will listen to several recordings of spoken English. These will feature one or more speakers. After each, the student should answer a series of multiple-choice or short-word-answer questions.

Reading

The student will see a series of texts of varying lengths on screen. Then they will be asked multiple questions about them in different formats. These include multiple-choice, true/false/not given, answer matching, or written responses.

Writing

The examiner will give the candidate two tasks, which may be on any relevant topic. Thus, they have to organize and complete an extended written response for each part. The candidate has to address the task and include the main keywords of the topic.

When you receive your results, you will be given details of the individual outcome (pass/fail) for each skill taken, plus your overall test outcome (also pass/fail): you need to pass each of the skills taken to pass the test overall.

UKVI SELT Exam: SKILLS FOR ENGLISH

Introduction

Skills for English is a Secure English Language Test (SELT). The UK Home Office for UK Visas and Immigration requires a pass in Skills for English to demonstrate your English language skills for your visa application. It is a computer-based exam since the student can take it at the Institute of Career Development, which is authorized by the  PSI Test Centre in Morocco.

Skills for English UKVI is equivalent to IELTS (UKVI) and objectively assesses test takers’ English language proficiency in four facets; listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The UK home office approves the exam Skills for English UKVI. Thus, one can use this exam to apply for a UK visa for study, work, and immigration.

Skills for English UKVI adopts a Pass/No Pass scoring method. Applicants have to pass each part of the test to achieve the final test score. In the past, applicants may have needed to take IELTS multiple times to obtain a high enough passing grade. By taking Skills for English UKVI, test takers only need to get a “Pass” result, which saves time and money during the visa application process.
